About This Project

Pulped Friction is a series of experiments in digital, mixed, and traditional collage inspired and constructed from the pages of 1960s-80s magazines, including National Geographic, Better Homes and Gardens, and Jet. These works reimagine the past through a contemporary lens, centering Black figures within surreal and often satirical scenarios. Blending whimsical imagery with potent commentaries on race, identity, and pop culture, the series invites viewers to reconsider the narratives embedded within familiar media.

Pulped Friction

I often use humor to address sensitive topics in a way that is both engaging and thought-provoking. I grew up reading these magazines and many of my earliest recollections of art making came from tracing the pages of these magazines.
