How do I do it?
Employing generative AI as a foundation, I meticulously manipulate and refine digital images to disrupt established narratives. My work inserts my presence—Black, contemporary, and unapologetic—into historical spaces where erasure was intended. In one piece, I reimagine Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam, substituting God with my own image, surrounded by Black angels. In another, I replace Titian’s Venus of Urbino, redefining notions of beauty, power, and ownership.
These are not mere recreations; they are deliberate interventions.
My art confronts themes of race, identity, class, sex, and wealth—sometimes with reverence, sometimes with dark humor, but always with unwavering intent. I remix classical and contemporary elements, the sacred and the subversive, to expose the dynamics of visibility, veneration, and belonging.
My work is deeply personal, yet broadly expansive. It embraces the inherent messiness of real history, showcasing diverse styles and genres unified by a central truth: Blackness is not a peripheral consideration; it is the core.
